Modify Visitation with a Child in Alabama

If you already have a court order for child visitation and wish to make changes, you must obtain a new court order from the court that originally issued the parenting plan or custody order.

How Modification Works

The process depends on whether both parents agree to the proposed changes:

  • If both parents agree, a revised Parenting Plan or agreement can be submitted to the court for approval.
  • If one parent does not agree, the requesting parent must file a formal modification petition and ask the court to review the request.

In all cases, the court will consider whether the proposed change is in the best interest of the child.
